Statues of Akaba, R Suisa to be opened on January 3

The 70th birth anniversary of Chingsubam Akaba along with the first anniversary of 'Pandam', the evening publication of which he was the editor 38 years ago, was commemorated today at a function held at Khongbal Tangkhul village in Senapati district.
During the function held at the burial site of Ex-MP Rungshung Suisa, who yearned for the unity of hill and valley people, the organizers announced that statues of Chingsubam Akaba and Rungshung Suisa will be opened on January 3 next at the village.
Two journalists were presented with Chingsubam Akaba memorial journalist awards 2014 at the commemoration jointly organized by Luchingpural Chingsubam Akaba Ningsing Lup, Management Board of Pandam and R.Suisa Trust.

Editor of Hueiyen Lanpao (Manipuri) Daily Hemantakumar Ningomba received the editor's award for his editorials towards development of Manipuri language and Meitei mayek, while Reporter of Sangai Express daily Sapam Aruna was given the award for her reports on communal harmony.
Chief Guest of the function King Leisemba Sanajaoba donated a sum of Rs.25 thousand towards the erection of statues of the two leaders.
The amount has been given from the money donated by legendary hunger striker Irom Chanu Sharmila for the Sana Konung development, the chief guest said.
Earlier the king had presented a sum of Rs.50 thousand for the purpose.
Speaking at the occasion, secretary of Manipur State Shumang Lila Council Sh.
Hemanta assured the organizers for financial help from the Council's fund for the erection of statues of the two leaders.
Ex Minister RV Mingthing presided over the function, which was marked by publication of a special issue of the 'Pandam' .
President of Tangkhul Nagalong, Ayo Kajingmei, President of Editors' Guild A.Mubi, Chairman of R.Suisa Trust DrNgoher Sai Luithui, executive editor of Pandam Namoijam Tomba and chief of khongbal Tangkhul village Akhui Zemit attended the function as guests of honour.
