Rally taken out against rape of minor

JAC members, locals and students of Tharoijam Maning Leikai today took out a protest rally at Tharoijam village and its surrounding localities against the brutal rape and murder of an 8-year-old girl.
JAC members, victim's family, students of Charai Hingun Shanglen School and villagers gathered at the community hall of Tharoijam Maning Leikai and took out the rally at the village and surrounding localities.
The rallyists marched up to the school and returned from Salam village side and proceeded towards the place, where the girl's body was recovered at Tharoijam Maning Leikai.
The rallyists offered floral tributes and observed a two-minute silence there.
The protesters held placards that read, 'We condemn minor girl's rape and murder', 'We want capital punishment awarded to Ch Shyamjai' and 'We want justice' .
The rallyists then returned to the community hall of Tharoijam Maning Leikai, where they held a public meeting.
Strongly condemning the incident, the meeting resolved to demand the authority concerned to award capital punishment to the culprit(s) .
It may be mentioned that body of the girl was recovered from a drain, 50 metres away from the house of Chingangbam Shyamjai (24) s/o (L) Ingoucha of Tharoijam Makha Leikai in the night of November 5 .
Shyamjai, who has been accused of raping and murdering the girl, was hospitalised in critical condition after an irate mob thrashed him the next day.
Apart from vandalising his house, his family has also been ostracised by the villagers of Tharoijam Maning Leikai.
