Brahminy shelducks arrive late by 4 days

Brahminy Shelducks, a migratory bird species known as Nganu Thangong in Manipuri have started arriving at Tangjeng biological heritage site.
Arrival of the Brahminy Shelducks at the biological heritage site is four days late as compared to the previous year.
According to information received from Forest Department, the migratory bird species of Brahminy Shelduck come to Tangjeng Biological Heritage site every year.
Generally, they start arriving at Tangjeng in the last week of October.
But this year, they started arriving there from November 4.Altogether 60 Nganu Thangongs came to Tangjeng last year.
Notably, Forest Department fitted two transmitters on three Nganu Thangongs in 2011 to study their migratory route.
Just as other migratory birds have started arriving at Loktak lake, Little Grebe species of migratory birds have started arriving at Zeliad lake of Tamenglong.
