Imphal, October 07 2014:
Demanding the revocation of the government order on replacing the chairman of the Council of Higher Secondary School, Manipur, Hamom Nabachandra, members of Council of Higher Secondary Education Employees Association have launched an indefinite cease work strike from today.
The employees staged a sit-in-protest at the office of the Council at Babupura in support of the demand, marking the commencement of the cease work strike.
One of the striking employees present there expressed resentment at the government move to send an IAS officer, C Arthur, as the new chairman of the Council while Hamon Nabachandra is still functioning in the same post.
He questioned the rationality of changing the chairman of the Council at a time when the main examinations for Class XI and Class XII conducted by CoHSEM is just a few months away.
The team under the stewardship of the present chairman had completed 80 percent of the preparations for the examinations and any new person stepping into his place will face many difficulties in carrying out the examinations, particularly in coming to terms with the specific tasks that had been assigned to each employee, he stated.
He urged the government to understand the circumstances and revoke the order for changing the incumbent chairman so as to enable the smooth execution of the council examinations for Class XI and Class XII for 2015.He suggested that the administration should consider keeping Nabachandra as the chairman of the council till the superannuation of his service period which falls on February 28, 2015 .
The employees clarified that they do not have any problem with the appointment of Arthur as the chairman of the Council but pointed out that at the present juncture the decision is not favorable considering its possible effects in conducting the council examinations.
They felt that the right time for replacement of the chairman will be only after the examinations are over.
However, they made it a point to remind the government to send a full time chairman and added that the association cannot accept any officer engaged with another department.
Meanwhile, MEELAL has contended that the government had acted hastily in making its decision on transferring Nabachandra and chairman of BoSEM P Dhanakumar, and demanded its immediate revocation in view of the forthcoming matriculate and council examinations.
