Imphal, October 07 2014:
State secretary of CPI, Dr M Nara has announced that the party will not support the Congress, BJP or Trinamool Congress at the upcoming Hiyanglam by election.
Speaking to media persons at the party's office at Irabot Bhavan today, Dr Nara stated that the party refrained from fielding its candidate for the by-election to the seat owing to reluctance to get its hands dirty in the contest of muscle power, money power and excessive activities.
He reminded that the party had contested successfully from the Assembly constituency in the past and still got many supporters.
Thus, entering the fray for the by-elections would not have been a major task, he insisted.

The arbitrary and crazy manner of putting up flags by the various contesting parties have created confusion whether the elections codes of conduct are being obeyed or not, he stated adding that it had also led to altercations among the people in the area.
The CPI had complained to the Election Commission some time back to investigate the possibility of poll code violations, he stated.
He informed that the executive council meeting of the party held earlier in the day discussed the by-election for Hiyanglam AC and passed a resolution against giving support to either the Congress, BJP or the Trinamool Congress.
People could easily sense the situation of a race among the candidates in spending money and using other wrongful means to garner votes and win the seat despite a term of only two and half years remaining, he stated.
He iterated that despite several requests to the Election Commission for introduction of EVM paper trail during voting in Manipur, all of its pleas have fallen to deaf ears although it had been tried out in Nagaland and Mizoram.
Commercialization of politics is unethical and combined effort for rooting it out has become an immediate necessity, he stated, predicting positive returns to the society on achievement of the true ways of practising politics.
Dr Nara further expressed his gratitude for the support of the people in the successful celebration of Irabot Day and thanked them.
Senior CPI leader N Mangi informed that views were exchanged and evaluated to find out ways for strengthening the party during the executive council meeting.
