Imphal, October 07 2014:
Manipur's minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Moirangthem Okendro today met the Union minister for CAF & PD (independent charge), Ram Vilas Paswan, and pressed the latter to extend maximum assistance to realize the successful implementation of the National Food Security Act in the state.
Paswan reportedly gave Okendro his full assurance on providing all possible help.
According to reports the meeting took place at Paswan's office chamber at Delhi.
Okendro brought up the problems being faced by the state due to inadequate numbers of godowns to store the food items supplied there even as the extended deadline for launching the Act expired on October 5 last.
He requested the Union minister to give a leeway of another three months for the launch in order to complete the development works at the FCI godowns.
Paswan responded warmly to the suggestions and agreed with the views put up by Okendro, the report stated.
Moreover, he promised to visit Manipur for inspection of the works being undertaken for implementation of the Act and also for inauguration of the FCI godowns at Churachandpur and Thoubal.
Okendro apprised the Union minister on the works accomplished by the state government for identification of beneficiaries, data digitization and other related activities.
Okendro further explained the expected threats from bandh and blockades that are frequent in the state to Paswan.
Okendro presented Paswan a state emblem, painting of Khamba-Thoibi and other presents from chief minister of Manipur O Ibobi.
