Wildlife Week concludes

The 59th Wildlife Week concluded today at GM Hall with distribution of prizes to winners of different competitions held as a part of the week long observance.
The week long observance was organised by Forest Department and the closing function was graced by Rural Development Minister Francis Ngajokpa, MLA W Brajabidhu and Chief Wildlife Warden PN Prasad as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
The main features of the closing function was distribution of prizes to winners of painting and article writing competitions and the Wildlife Protection Initiative Award.

Prizes for Wildlife Photography competition held as a part of the week long observance were distributed to 12 winners.
The State Wildlife Protection Initiative award was conferred to one individual, one organisation and one police personnel.
The award winners are People for Animal, Thoubal, Sangai Protection Forum, Unique Wildlife Protection Committee Sekmaijin, the Volunteers Langol, The Sangai Express Senior Staff Reporter Laishram Shamungou, Churachandpur police station OC MA Salam, Sub-Inspector Thoudam Churachand of Sugnu police station and 3rd IRB Havildar Ningombam Lolil Meitei.
A book authored by Kumam Jugeshwar and titled Check Lit of Birds of Manipur was also released at the closing function.
Speaking at the occasion, Francis Ngajokpa called upon all the people to protect and preserve the State's flora and fauna in the interest of future generations.
He also appealed to one and all to protect the natural habitats of wild animals.
Chief Wildlife Warden PN Prasad said that protection of wild animals is intrinsically anthropogenic.
Wild animals are invaluable resources of mankind.
For development of an alternative home for Sangais found in Keibul Lamjao National Park, the department has already submitted a proposal of Rs 80 crore.
Development of the alternative home would be started from next year in association with the Wildlife Institute of India and WWF, PN Prasad said.
Any body who can bring photographs of Slow Loris, Nongin, Manipur Bush Quail and Hoolok Gibbon living in their natural habitats would be rewarded by the department, Prasad added.
