Cabinet okays creation of 5 new sub-divisions in hills

Imphal, August 07 2014:
In view of the inconveniences being faced by the people of hill areas in obtaining their necessary documents and with the objectives of improving administrative efficiency in the hills, the State Cabinet on Thursday approved creation of 5 new sub-divisions in Senapati, Ukhrul, Churachandpur and Tamenglong districts of Manipur.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the State Cabinet presided over by Chief Minister O.Ibobi Singh at the Conference Room of Chief Minister's Secretariat today afternoon.
Informing this to the media, Government spokesperson Moirangthem Okendro, who is also the Minister of Education and CAF & PD, said the sub-divisions to be created are Mao Sub-division and Bungte Chiru Sub-division in Senapati District, Lungchong Meiphai Sub-division in Ukhrul District, Thangting Sub-division in Churachandpur District and Haochong Sub-division in Tamenglong District.
The newly established Mao sub-division which was under the Tadubi Sub-Division will cover a total population of 51,138 of 13 villages, while Lungchong Meiphai Sub-division will have 28 villages having a total population of 42,451, the Minister informed.
Thangting sub-division which will cover 125 villages with a population of 27,730 is to be created by segregating 66 villages of Churachandpur Sub-division and 59 villages of Henglep Sub-division, Okendro added.
Haochong sub-division, which is to be created out of Tamenglong Sub-division will have 16 villages and 14,120 population, while Bungte Chiru sub-division will have 27 villages segregated from SDC Kangchup Circle.
It will have 12,071 population, the Government spokesperson further said.
The decision has been taken in view of the inconveniences faced by people of hill area in obtaining their necessary documents including Schedule Tribe Certificates and Income Certificates, the minister explained.
Today's Cabinet meeting also reportedly gave its approval to appointment of 4 Additional Government Advocates through Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC) .
