CM activates water harvesting projects

Chief minister N Biren Singh inaugurated Spring Water Harvesting, Sustainable Water and Forest Conservation projects at Heingang, Kameng and Lamdeng in a solemn function held on Saturday at the CM's Secretariat.
The projects were jointly undertaken by Central Forest Division of Forest Department and ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth.
While stressing the need for preservation and protection of forest areas to maintained the fragile ecological balance, he said that state government has undertaken various programmes and schemes for the conservation of forest in the state.
To address the issues of global warming, climate change and environmental degradation, the government has successfully implemented Chief Minister's Green Manipur Mission in the state, Biren maintained and conveyed that mass tree plantations have been started in different parts of the state recently.
Appreciating initiative of the ICICI Foundation for providing potable water to the public, the CM expressed satisfaction over the project saying it would benefit thousands of household in the state.
He also suggested that the Foundation initiate reforestation projects in the hill areas of the state.
Forest and Environment minister Awangbow Newmai, Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba, additional chief secretary MH Khan, PCCF & HoFF of Forest Department Dr AK Joshi, secretary to CM Ningthoujam Geoffrey, ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth president Saurabh Singh, CEO Anuj Agarwal, and officials of Forest Department and ICICI were also present at the function.
