Imphal, December 24 2011:
Agriculture Minister Ph Parijat today said that history is the landmark of the pace of development and development is incomplete without the record of history.
He was speaking in the inaugural of the Record Exhibition cum One Day Seminar as part of the 32nd Archives Week organised by the Manipur State Archives at the State Archives Complex, Imphal.
He further said that Manipur is going faster than the whole India in the pace of development and this can be easily pointed out by studying the records in the State Archives.
The archives help to a large extent in the development process of a society with proper planning for the future by studying the past records and present situation.
Commissioner, Arts and Culture RK Nimai who presided over the inaugural function said that Manipuris lack the habit of reading books.
However they are very interested in criticizing or discussing a book, but without actually reading it.
Visitors in the State Archives are comparatively low when compared to other states of India even though the state archive has a large collection of early historical records.
He also said that one should study others' culture and history before deducing that ours is the best.
Inner Line Permit was not implemented in the state in the past but it has its own system of issuing foreigner's passport to outsiders.
There were instances when Rabindranath and Jawaharlal Nehru could not visit Manipur as they did not have the foreigner's passport.
