Media has big role to end mistrust: Chief Minister

Manipur on Monday celebrated the National Press Day with the conferment of Manipur State Journalists' Awards by Chief O Ibobi to 8 Journalists.
Four Hueiyen Lanpao journalists also received the awards from the Chief Minister.
Speaking at the function as the Chief Guest, Ibobi stated that media has a big role to play in ending the growing "mistrust" between communities in the State.
On the occasion, Ibobo lauded the media in the State for awakening the consciousness of the mass by remaining ever vigilant.
He also said that Government officials should ideally meet media persons regularly and exchange their views on development.
However, this ideal situation has not been achieved so far, said Ibobi.

Ibobi assured the gathering that the necessary actions would be taken up for the welfare of media fraternity including Press Housing colony and welfare programmes for senior journalists.
During the function, the Chief Minister conferred the awards to Khoirom Loyalakpa for his editorials while Hueiyen Lanpao journalists - Wangkhem Rishikesh; Mutum Rameshchandra; Ashem Babycha and Gyanand Naorem received the awards for Sports Reporting; Public Health and Hygiene; Women and Child Reporting and Rural Reporting respectively.
Others who received the Manipur State Journalists Award are Angom Ranjit (Reporting on Art and Culture), Laishram Keshonanda (Science & Technology Reporting) and Sorensangbam Sonia (Parliamentary Reporting) .
Directorate of Information and Public Relations has been giving away the Manipur State Journalists Award for the categories with a cash prize of Rs 25,000 each.
Dr Aribam Ibomcha Sharma, News Editor & Head of Regional News Unit, All India Radio, Imphal and Shri Brozendro Ningomba, Editor in Chief, ISTV present their papers on "The Impact and Import of Cartooning and Caricature as a Medium of Expression of Opinion" which was moderated by Shri M.Saratchandra Singh, Sr PRO, Manipur University.
