Imphal, August 06 2018:
Ideal Farmers Progressive Committee organised an awareness programme for farmers with focus on how to double farmer's income, at Ima Tamairembi Shanglen, Kanto Sabal, under the directive of district administration officer, Imphal West today.
Additional Chief Secretary Letkhogin Haokip, Khurkhul Gram Panchayat Member Laishram (o) Khemashwori, Agricultural Director Ph Rajendra, District Agricultural Officer Imphal West A Nabakumar and District Fishery Officer Imphal West Th Ingobi attended the awareness programme as dignitaries.
Speaking onthe occasion, Additional CS Letkhogin Haokip stated that the awareness programme was organised following the declaration of the Prime Minister Modi to double the income of Indian farmers by 2020.He said, the term farmer does not denote those who work in the paddy field but also include vegetable farmers, cattle farmers etc and the farmers in the State usually remain free after cultivating the paddy/vegetables and are not aware of other steps or works which can be taken up right after the cultivation process, which can in turn improve their financial status and increase productivity.
Letkhogin conveyed that there are times when the farmers fail to show up at such programmes despite the tireless effort of the Department in organising the programme.
Such negligence and ignorance of farmers, he said, will prove such awareness programmes useless.
He maintained that farmers should take such welfare and awareness programmes more seriously and take this opportunity to mingle and discuss with the Department officials.
Agriculture Director Ph Rajendra enlightened the gathering on the initiatives and programmes launched by the Central and State Government, for the welfare of the farmers across the Nation.
Rajendra said that farmers are less aware of these welfare schemes, especially those who are residing at hill districts.
He further conveyed that such schemes will prove beneficial to farmers clubs and urged all the farmers gathered at the programme to enrol at such clubs.
