State Advisory Council (SAC) resolves to eliminate admission test in schools

The first meeting of the State Advisory Council (SAC) on Right to Education (RTE), which was held today in the office chamber of Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro at Imphal Secretariat, has resolved to do away with admission test for students seeking admission at the elementary level in all the private schools including the Catholic schools run by Christian Missionaries in the State.
Talking to mediapersons after the meeting, Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro, who is also the Chairman of SAC, informed that the State Government is very serious over proper implementation of Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act or Right to Education Act, in short, in Manipur.
So, the State Advisory Council on Right to Education, which was formed recently, had its first meeting today.
"The meeting of the State Advisory Council on Right to Education minutely deliberated over the issue of conducting admission test in some private schools, particularly the Catholic schools run by Christian Missionaries.
After a thorough discussion over the matter, the meeting unanimously resolved to prohibit all forms of admission/entrance test for students seeking admission at the elementary level in all private schools including Catholic schools, for this current academic session", the Minister said.
Accordingly, the meeting further resolved to appeal to all the private schools and Catholic schools run by Christian Missionaries in the State not to conduct any admission test, he added.
Informing that the next meeting of the State Advisory Council on Right to Education would be convened in the month of February, the Minister disclosed that in that meeting, the issue related to formulation of rules and regulations to be followed by all the private schools in the State would be discussed in detail.
While appealing to the general public to give their unstinted support and co-operation in the venture, the Education Minister observed that the proposed rules and regulations for the private schools that would be finalized in consultation with various experts and scholars in the field so as to make it the best and most favourable one.
On the rationalization process of Government teachers, the Education Minister assured that it would be done in the most accurate manner and gives no space for political intervention in the process.
The Minister further assures that while trying its level best to bring about a drastic change for the better in the Education department, the State Government will also leave no stone unturned for making the Education Department a corruption free department.
The Minister called upon all the people to report any case of corruption if they come across in the
Education Department.
Noting that certain private individuals are carrying out coaching classes in Government schools, the Minister made it clear that this practice should be stopped at once.
