Imphal, January 31 2013:
Manipur Rural Bank Employees' Association (MREBA) today joined the nationwide agitation by rural bank employees with a day-long sit-in-protest in front of its Keishampat office gate.
According to MREBA general secretary N Brajamohan and Manipur Rural Bank Officers' Association general secretary L Joychandra today's agitation is to protest alleged discrimination and favouritism against its employees by rural bank authorities.
While 90 percent of the bank employees have been covered by pension and other service benefits, the remaining percentage of employees are deprived of similar facilities for the past many years, they claimed.
The demands of the rural bank employees are said to be pension parity, formation of National Rural Bank of India, regularisation/absorption of part-time daily waged workers, adequate man-power through recruitment and promotion, extend relevant allowances and benefits including computer increment, and representation of work-men and officers in the banks' board of management.
Further highlighting that in some States State Bank of India sponsors rural banks while in some others United Bank of India is the sponsor, the general secretaries emphasised on the need for a single and uniform sponsor to do away with the disparity.
