Imphal, January 31 2013:
Student organisation Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has cautioned the general public, particularly the parents, on the existence of some educational institutions trying to mislead the student community.
Speaking to newspersons at its Keishampat office today, Desam general secretary Arambam Thoithoi Singh claimed to have come across some schools that have no valid document to support Government recognition or affiliation claims but nevertheless put up 'recognised' tag on their sign boards.
Elaborating, he said that Desam teams carried out surprise inspection at some schools located in Imphal East and West districts to determine their authenticity and detected nearly 10 schools functioning without valid registration/recognition documents.
identifying one of the schools as Ushus School, Soibam Leikai having classes I to V standard, Thoithoi claimed that the school authorities could not produce relevant documents of Government granting recognition even though the sign board had the word 'recognised' inscribed on it.
Similarly, North Eastern English School, Khabeisoi claim to be a class I to X recognised educational institution but upon further inspection it not only came to light that the School has no Government recognition but another institution under the name Afrosh Higher Secondary School shares the same complex, the general secretary maintained.
Despite claiming as a CBSE-affiliated school, authorities of Ng Mani Senior Higher Secondary School, Khurai Chairenthong could not furnish relevant documents, he informed and named St Paul English School (Nongmeibung), Bal Bikash Kendra (Top Khongnangkhong) and Albert English School (Singjamei) as some of the educational institutions that could not prove claim of being recognised or affiliated to State/central boards.
Reminding that Desam had carried out similar drives in the past following reports of students losing their academic careers after denial to appear in examinations for they were admitted to unrecognised educational institutions, Thoithoi appealed to the parents to check authenticity of schools before enrolling their wards.
He also suggested that State's Board of Secondary Education and Council of Higher Secondary Education initiate appropriate measures to pull up authorities of dubious schools.
