Imphal, November 28 2013:
While expressing concern over erratic power supply in Tamenglong district, thereby affecting the students in preparation for their annual examinations, Zeliangrong Students' Union, Manipur (ZSUM) has appealed to the State Government, particularly the Electricity Department, to see that the supply supply is restored immediately in the district.
Issuing a statement in this regard, chairman of ZSUM Kadijan Pamei pointed out that most of the students from the district are poor who came all the way from the interior parts like Nungba subdivisional headquarter, Noney, Khoupum, Tousem and Tamei, etc, to the district headquarters to study and they are not in the position to even afford to buy candle sticks every day for their studies.
A family who has more than 3-4 students would have to spend at least 40-50 rupees on daily basis on buying candles and this has become one of the biggest problems for all the denizens of the district, Kadijan Pamei.
He noted that Tamenglong district has the lowest percentage in the employment sector either in the private or the government.
And this problem can be minimized to some extent if the government does the needful at this time of hour, particularly at the time of the students' final examinations, by providing electricity at any cost.
Of all the departments of the state, the education department is one of the worse departments, and it is the responsibility of the government to acts as the guardian of its people, Kadimei Pamei added.
