Football ground dedicated to Govajang villagers

In its ongoing endeavour to promote sports in the state of Manipur, 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) has dedicated a Football Field to Govajang Village, Dist - Chandel near Indo Myanmar border in Moreh Block today.
According to a statement issued by PRO IGAR (S), Mary Kom, Olympic Medalist and sports icon of India graced the occasion as Guest of Honour.
A large number of dignitaries and Government Officials of Moreh and adjoining areas attended the dedication ceremony which was presided over by Brig Rajiv Mankotia, VSM, Commander, 26 Sector Assam Rifles.
The ceremony was followed by a friendly football match between teams of 9 Assam Rifles and Govajang village.
The newly dedicated football field has been carved out of a hillock by utilizing resources from Assam Rifles and BRTF as part of the theme (Sports for Peace & Prosperity).
The construction of this football field is an example of the close cooperation between Assam Rifles and the villagers of the border town Govajang.
Brig Rajiv Mankotia, VSM, Commander, 26 Sector Assam Rifles highlighted that sports bring people together irrespective of caste, creed, religion, colour or race, thereby bring peace and prosperity in the area.
He mentioned that Assam Rifles will continue building such sports facilities in near future also, the statement added.
