Chandel MLA proposes dress code to reduce crimes on women

A 16-day long International Campaign on Violence Against Women kicked off from today at Mini Indoor Stadium, Japhou in Chandel District Headquarters.
The campaign is being launched by All Tribal Women Organisation (ATWO), Chandel District in collaboration with various women organisations of Chandel District under the theme "From peace in the home to peace in the world and let's challenge militarization & end violence against women" .
The inaugural function of the campaign was attended by St.
Nunghlung Victor Anal, MLA of 41-Chandel A/C as Chief Guest; Th Chittaranjan Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Chandel as functional President while E.Priyokumar Singh, SP of Chandel and W.Tomen Meitei, Chief Judicial Magistrate of Chandel as Guest of Honours.
During the function, booklets and posters relating to the campaign were released and mementos were presented to women leaders of different tribes.
An 8-point charter of demands to end violence against women was also adopted during the function.
Speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest, MLA St.
Nunghlung Victor Anal expressed serious concern over rising violence and crime against women not only in our state but also in other parts of the country.
"So, we should curb such crimes by joining our hands together and with the active participation of civil organisations at every level," the MLA exhorted.
He also opined that crime against women will somehow be declined, if the civil organisations impose certain dress codes for women.
