Imphal, November 28 2013:
Under the aegis of All India BSNL/DOT Pensioners' Association, NE-II Circle, Imphal (Manipur) retired BSNL/DOT employees today staged sit in demonstration at BSNL complex near General Post Office to demand 78.2 percent IDA for both pre-2007 and post-2007 BSNL pensioners.
According to the Association's NE-II Circle secretary N Kulla Singh with the implementation of the Sixth Pay commission's recommendation Department of Telecommunication (DoT) and BSNL employees are entitled to 78.2 percent IDA fixation effective from January 1, 2007 .
While present employees have been receiving the IDA increment from january 1 this year, intimation by retired employees for similar incentive remains unfulfilled inspite of repeated assurances by the authority concerned, Kulla disclosed and added that such inordinate delay constrained BSNL pensioners to undertake sit-in-demonstration.
The protest is a part of the country-wide movement, he said and conveyed that BSNL and DOT pensioners would launch protest demonstrations during the upcoming winter session of Parliament to highlight their plight followed by further course of action in case the Parliament agitation do not evoke positive response.
Out of the country-wide total of about 2 lakh BSNL/DOT pensioners Manipur has 120 retired employees, the secretary informed.
