The 1st Kathange Gospel Idol 2016, a State level talent hunt for Gospel artiste, has kicked off today at Tengnoupal with Chandel ADC Chairman Lhukhosei Zou gracing the inaugural programme as the chief guest, reports our correspondent.
Chandel ADC Vice-Chairman Th Joy Lamkang and other Chandel ADC Members were also present at the programme.
Altogether, 75 contestants from Senapati, Chandel, Churachandpur and Ukhrul are participating in the talent hunt.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Lhukhosei Zou said that songs and music not only enthral the listeners but also soothe one's mind.
For Christians, songs are indispensable part of worshipping the Lord.
He also said that a person with a melodious voice is adored by both young and old alike.
To participate in such event where one can exhibits his or her talent is fortunate.
The ADC Chairman further maintained that though India is a secular country, there are reports of continuous harassment meted out to minority Christian community in some States ruled by the BJP.
As such, people must be wise while electing representatives.
Freedom to follow any religion should be respected particularly by leaders who represent the people and who had pledged to work for the welfare of the people irrespective caste or creed, he added.
