Blockade affects normal life

For the second day, normal life has been affected today in Chandel district due to the indefinite economic blockade imposed by the Flood Victims Demand Committee, Chandel in protest against the Government's failure to release relief fund for providing compensation to the flood affected victims of 2015 .
A large number of flood victims mainly women enforced the blockade along the section of Imphal-Moreh highway and district headquarters road for the Second consecutive day today.
All the vehicles coming from Moreh and lmphal were checked near Thamlapokpi village and Liwachangnihg and allowed to proceed further after pulling down the goods.
Briefing media persons, Jewson Monsang, a flood victim from Japhou said that the flood victims strongly condemn the Congress led State Government for not releasing the relief fund meant for last year's flood and landslide which was already sanctioned by the Central Government.
The ongoing indefinite economic blockade will continue till the State Government releases the said relief fund and provide compensation for the loss of agricultural lands, livestocks, IVR, standing crops, etc he added.
While urging for immediate release of the relief fund, he also appealed the public to extend co-operation during the economic blockade.
