Nemcha vouches for women empowerment through gender equality

Imphal, July 26 2018:
The Hmar Women Association celebrated its 30th anniversary today at Saikot Youth Club Hall, Saikot, Churachandpur district.
Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, Social Welfare and Cooperation Minister Nemcha Kipgen conveyed that gender equality is an essential element to empower women.
The first and foremost step towards empowering women starts at home when equal opportunities are given to children or siblings, irrespective of their gender, to pursue education and the freedom to take their own decisions, she added.
While addressing the gathering, Minister Nemcha said that equalising the rights of women and men in the society improves quality of work and also the economic status of the State as well as the nation.
She continued that women empowerment is the key to strengthen participation in the decision-making which is the most important key to socioeconomic development.
Nemcha highlighted women-centric welfare schemes like One Stop Centre - Sakhi, Women Helpline (181), Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana.
Yojana (PMMVY) which are introduced and implemented through Social Welfare Department.
She encouraged the women present on the occasion to avail all such schemes as it will further uplift their lives.
Nemcha prayed for success and empowerment to the women of Hmar community in connection with the completion of 30th anniversary of the association.
She stated that it is very brave and encouraging for women to come out of their houses, apart from maintaining household chores, and taking up different initiatives for the welfare of women in the State.
In this new era, more women are taking part in decision making, playing crucial roles in governance and has been able to achieve posts which were not achievable in earlier times.
Stating that the role of both men and women are equally important in shaping a society, she motivated both to work together in forwarding the pace of development.
As part of the celebration, HWA Pearl Jubilee Celebration Souvenir (Magazine) was released by the chief guest and HYA Joint Headquarters Ambulance Project was also launched, apart from presentation of Hmar traditional dance and music.
TN Haokip, MLA Saikot A/C and Sherry Lalthangzo, IES, North Eastern Council, Government of India also graced as special guest and president respectively.
While, Assam University Asst Professor Lalthakim Hmar, RWUS Chief Functionary Mary Beth Sanate, Swachh Bharat Mission, Pherzawl district coordinator Thangthatling Sinate and Saikot AC MLA TN Haokip were also present in the occasion.
