2 days bird watching camp begins at Thoubal

The "2 Days One Night Bird Watching Camp" organized by Thoubal Forest Division under the aegis of NMHS, Nature Learning Centre has begun at Thoubal today.
The opening function of the camp, which was held at Conference Hall of DFO Thoubal with the help of Ningshing Lup, Tekcham and Wildlife and Biodiversity Conservation Committee (WBCC), was attended by L Joykumar Singh, Conservator of Forest Central Forest Circle; Dr Kh Shamungou, Chairman Technical Committee, Manipur State Wetlands Authority; and L Debala, Divisional Forest Officer, Thoubal as dais members.
Speaking at the occasion, L Joykumar Singh, Conservator of Forest Central Forest Circle said that the camp was conducted to instill the habit of bird watching among the youths and young students and to learn the various ways to identify the different types of birds during the camp.
Adding that the students will come to be known as Bird Activist after they are in a position to spot identify the types of birds and have developed the habit of bird watching, he further said that the camp has been conducting since 2010 with the objective to infuse the feeling of love and care towards the birds.
Altogether 40 students from various schools of Thoubal and Kakching Districts are participating in the camp.
They will stay the first night at the office of Ningshing Lup, Tekcham and will make a tour around Ikop lake, Lousi lake and Kharung lake to watch the different types of bird during the camp while an environmental quiz will be conducted for the participating students followed by screening of "Nature Film" as part of the camp.
Premjit Elangbam, Gen Secy TYDA Thoubal & member IBCN; Gopal Leishangthem, Vice President Global Science Club Khoijuman & member IBCN; Brajesh Khumanthem, member IBCN; and Laishram Gopen, member IBCN attended the opening day of the camp as resource persons.
