Alleged custodial death: NEFIS demands immediate arrest of personnel involved

Imphal, December 21 2018: North-East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) has strongly condemned the alleged custodial death of Md Abdul Gafar of Lilong UsoipokpiMakha under Lilong Police Station of Thoubal district.

Md-Abdul Gafar was reportedly pulled up by a combined force of 26 Assam Rifles and police commandos attached with Thoubal district police from his house in the wee hours of Thursday.

Later, the family was informed about the death.

His body was deposited at JNIMS morgue.

Gafar was reportedly brought at the casualty ward of JNIMS hospital where doctors on duty declared him brought dead.

Demanding immediate arrest of the personnel involved, NEFIS in a statement issued by Alim Khulakpam, said that an enquiry supervised by the High Court should be conducted regarding the case to deliver justice.

NEFIS reminded that the CBI is currently probing alleged fake encounter cases of Manipur and that the Supreme Court is hearing the cases.

NEFIS has pledged to intensify movement against 'such killings' in North-East, in the coming days, said the statement.
