Absorbing surrendered UGs being considered: CM

Chief Minister N Biren Singh has said that the State Government is considering possible absorption of surrendered UGs as armed and unarmed personnel in both police and IRB.
He made the statement in connection with a question raised by Thangmeiband MLA Kh Joykisan during the last day of the Assembly session today.
The Chief Minister informed the House that there have been instances in the past when surrendered UGs were absorbed as armed or unarmed personnel of the State police or the IRB.
However, due to some case in which these individuals were found in contact with the UG outfits after they were absorbed as armed personnel, the State Government is considering accommodating them as unarmed personnel in police or IRB.
The State Government is also open to properly training and selecting dedicated individuals, after proper interview, as armed personnel in the State police or IRB, the CM added.
On the other hand, Biren assured that if the family of KCP surrenderee Soraisam Modhu (who was shot dead recently) has not been provided the compensation of Rs 5 lakh yet, the State Government will make necessary arrangements to pay the said compensation within a week.
On the other hand, replying to a question raised by MLA Abdul Nasir, Biren said that necessary charge sheets have been submitted against the people involved in the lynching of Farooque at Tharoijam but the family of the victim has not been provided the ex-gratia yet.
Speaking about the incident, the Chief Minister said that the mob lynching incident' at Tharoijam was condemned by all and as a result of the unfortunate incident, the State Government passed an ordinance to prevent such violence in the future.
The necessary ex-gratia will be given to the victim's family at the earliest, the CM assured.
On the other hand, replaying to a question raised by MLA Alfred Kanngan Arthur regarding lack of teachers at the schools under RMSA and SSA at Ukhrul which were recently upgraded to high school levels, Education Minister Th Radheshyam said that the lack of teachers is dueto utilisation of the said teachers and assured that, in the meantime, the State Government is trying to appoint 688 higher secondary lecturers so as to address the shortage of teachers.
Replying to a query by MLA Bira, Forest and Environment Minister Th Shyamkumar said that there are a total of 251 Sangai (63 males, 134 females and 54 infants) at Keibul Lamjao National Park.
Speaking about the recent attacks on livestock in various parts of the State, the Forest Minister claimed that the main culprit behind the said attacks were dogs, specifically German Shepherd breed.
However some were also caused by wild cats, he added.
The Minister further daimed that the said incident did not affect the Sangai in any way and added that the State Government, in collaboration with numerous local volunteers, is working tirelessly for conserving Sangai.
