3 UGs held, driver rescued

A combined team of Imphal East District Police, the Gamnom Saparmeina Police Station and 26 Assam Rifles nabbed three cadres of an unfamiliar armed group today while rescuing a truck driver who was abducted by them a few days ago.
In a press meet held at his Porompat office today, Imphal East SP K Kabib said that after a tip-off on the presence of armed cadres of the United Naga People's Council/Ching Tam Liberation Army (UNPC/CTLA), the combined team of police and paramilitary force conducted a cordon and search operation at Lamlai Mayai Leikai at around 4:30pm yesterday.
Two of the militants were nabbed with arms in the search operation, and a third one from Mantripukhri separately, Kabib informed while adding the combined team had also rescued the truck driver who was abducted by the trio.
The police team was acting under the overall super- vision of Imphal East Additional SP Wungpam Kasar and led by DSPs Robinson Khamnam and RK Sak-lemba, and OC of the dis- trict police commando, Inspector Lunthang Vaiphei.
The Gamnom Sapar-meina police included Kangpokpi Additional SP Lalboi Haokip.
The arrested cadres were identified as Moirangthem Bungcha Meitei aka Ishworjit, 30, s/o M Ingo of Thamnapokpi Mayai Leikai, Lamgoulum Misao aka Paulneo, (30) s/o Kamsei from Toulbung Matayeng, Churachandpur who is currently putting up at Tham- napokpi Mayai Leikai and Redeemson Muivah aka Bruce Lee, 21, s/o Kha-ningkhai from Muirei, Ukhrul who is presently staying at Mantripukhri.
Bungcha and Lamgoulum were arrested from Lamlai and Redeemson from Mantripukhri.
Several items were recovered from the trio including one 9mm pistol with five rounds of bullets, magazines, four mobile phones with SIM cards and one Honda Dio scooter with registration number MN 015E/0213.SP K Kabib said that the 9mm pistol and Dio were suspectedly used in the abduction of the truck driver.
With the arrest of the three cadres, he added the police were able to rescue the truck driver, Adakho Mao who was holed up in Laikol village located under Saparmeina PS.
When Adakho was abducted by unknown armed men from a place near Motbung on December 28, truck drivers' association had launched a ceasework protest.
Kabib further added that the three arrested insurgents worked under self-styled general secretary Jonah of UNPC/CTLA.
Earlier, under the command of s/s Major Angam of the outfit, Lamgoulum and Bungcha had abducted driver Adakho to demand a ransom of Rs 13 lakh, Kabib said.
The SP also mentioned that the trio will be handed over to the Lamlai PS for further legal action while adding that the Saparmeina PS had also been informed about the matter.
