Rape accused remanded to judicial custody

A 75 year old event manager/attendant of rituals (Arang pham) who had surrendered before the Imphal West Women Police Station on October 17 � on alleged molestation charge � has been remanded to judicial custody till November 2 after he was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West today.
The 75 year old Arang Pham identified as Okram Boramani S/o (L) O Chaoba of Singjamei Makha Khongnang Pheidekpi is charged of molesting a mentally disabled woman from his locality one year back.
Before he surrendered before the Imphal West Women Police Station, the accused had taken interim bail from the Court in connection with the case.
The accused was produced before the CJM Court today in connection with a case under FIR Number 41(7) 2015 of Women PS, Imphal West under section 354/376 IPC.
He was in police remand for three days.
The defence counsel prayed for granting bail to the accused on health ground by submitting related documents.
After hearing the case, the Court remanded the accused to judicial custody till November 2 .
It may be mentioned that the mother of the victim girl had charged the man of molesting and raping her mentally unstable daughter.
She filed a complaint before the Imphal West Women Police Station on July 20 .
In her complaint, the victim's mother said that the family came to know about the rape of their mentally unstable daughter by the man in December last year.
Both the victims and accused family members concealed the matter to save the image of the victim.
The accused used to lure the victim with currency notes and sweets.
He used to molest and rape the victim by taking her to isolated places.
The mother also mentioned that on March 16, 2015 at around 11 pm, the accused called out the victim girl by giving a signal, lighting a torch while the victim girl was in the courtyard.
The man was caught red handed.
He was warned not to repeat the act.
Despite the warning, the accused continued to molest and rape the victim repeatedly.
The mother then lodged a complaint with the police.
The accused took the first interim bail on July 23 soon after the mother of the victim lodged a complaint to Imphal West Women PS.
However, it was rejected by the District and Sessions Court, Imphal West.
He took the second interim bail on September 4 on health ground which was also rejected by the District and Sessions Court, Imphal West some days back.
The accused had surrendered before the Imphal West Women Police Station on October 17 .
