Imphal, July 10 2020:
Coalition Against Drugs And Alcohol (CADA) has appealed to the State Government not to open any bonded warehouse to store Indian Made Foreign Liquor, rum, beer and wine in the State.
In a statement issued today, secretary information & publicity of CADA, Khundongbam Anand said that the public of Manipur will not accept the step taken up by the Government as it will only increase the socio-economic problems in the State.
Alcoholism is not only harmful to health but also to families and communities at large, he said and urged the State Government to refrain from opening the bonded warehouse in the State which was earlier opened at Dimapur.
Though the warehouse is intended to supply imported liquor to Armed Forces, Para-Military Forces and State police only, opening liquors godown in the State will have serious consequences as the State Government couldn't even check leakage of liquor from 1st and 2nd MR canteens, he lamented.
Saying that making such move indicates that the Government has no respect for the people, Anand further appealed to the State Government to refrain from opening bonded warehouse to store foreign liquor in Manipur.
He also appealed all to not abuse alcohol.
