Bharat Nirman Campaign gets underway in Ukhrul district

Highlighting the various national flagship programmes being undertaken in the country, a three-day Bharat Nirman Campaign has kicked off at Ukhrul after an awareness rally taken out through the thoroughfares of the town on Thursday.
Inaugurating the campaign as Chief Guest at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Mini Secretariat here, Sub Divisional Officer of Chingai J.Huileng said that the Bharat Nirman Campaign is an exercise to inform the public on the various developmental programmes being taken up by the government.
'We are living in the age of information and those who do not have the right information become a stagnant person in this fast changing world,' he stated.
He said that information is the basic key to any development whether it may be infrastructural aspect or human resource development aspect and it is the right of every citizen to have the right information.
Today's programme was graced by A.W Ringshangphi, District Project Officer, ICDS Cell Ukhrul and Silla Konghay, President, Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL) as Functional President and Guest of Honour respectively.
They also addressed the gathering, predominantly school students, on the importance of the ongoing campaign.
In the keynote address, PIB's Media and Communication Officer (MCO) Premlata Loitam mentioned that the Government of India has launched various welfare programmes to boost the livelihood of the citizens.
She also cited that lack of information on these initiatives is a major factor among the rural masses to miss out the benefits given by the government.
The campaign is being organised by the respective PIB in the State in collaboration with different Union Government's agencies namely Directorate of Field Publicity (DFP), Department of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP), Song and Drama Division, All India Radio, Doordarshan and district administration.
Highlights of the programme also included exhibitions, cultural shows, songs, magic and dances from various artistes.
Pioneer state ICDS cell strides toward national goal: In her topical speech on ICDS in Ukhrul, A.W Ringshangphi mentioned that the ICDS cell in the district has taken a great stride ever since inception in 1995 as the first ICDS cell in Manipur.
In Ukhrul, there are six projects namely Ukhrul ICDS Project, Chingai ICDS Project, Kamjong ICDS Project, Phungyar ICDS Project, Kasom Khullen ICDS Project and Lungchong Meiphai ICDS Project.
These six ICDS project are looking after the nutritional and other services needs of more than two thousand children below six years and nursing mothers, she added.
Further, she said there are 849 Anganwadi centres and 236 mini centres in the district, while adding that altogether 1085 Anganwadi workers and 2170 helpers of the ICDS project have been effectively catering to the needs of children and nursing mother.
On "Rural Telephony" in Manipur, Woryao Sareo, SDO, BSNL, Ukhrul said that the telecommunication has seen a big improvement in Manipur in the past ten years and every part of the state would be connected in near future.
He said that telephony has brought the people across the globe closer and communications have been made much easier and convenient in more ways than one.
In Manipur, he informed, there are 66,822 VPT services being available in the country.
Of the total services, Ukhrul has 2500 VPT with break-up category of 700 VPT, 500 WLL, 700 LL, 8 BTS, 5WLL BTS and 2 Wimax BTS.
Further, he assured that the government would allot the district with more facilities and efforts are on to increase the services in near future.
