Imphal, November 20 2013:
A man working in a paddy harvesting work today died after he was allegedly given a blow by a tractor driver following a verbal duel.
The incident occurred today around 1.30pm at a paddy field at Achanbigei Maning Loubuk under Heingang PS in Imphal East district.
Information culled from the spot said that Sanasam Sanathoi alias Ishen (35) s/o Jatra of Khabam Maning Leikai collapsed when a tractor driver, Moirangthem Basanta (53) s/o (L) Tombimacha of Achanbigei Mayai Leikai gave a blow.
Sanathoi allegedly succumbed on the way to Catholic Medical Centre.
Before the this, both the men were engaged in verbal duel.
Basanta, the tractor driver who went there to transport paddy as engaged earlier by the paddy field owner, gave the blow which later turned out to be fatal, when Sanathoi told him to return if he was so impatient to wait till the end of the harvesting.
Basanta was attending a marriage programme of his relatives when he got repeated calls to bring his tractor to transport the paddy from the field.
When he reached the field, the harvest was not even completed.
Meanwhile, a mob from Khabam went to the resident of Basanta and dismantled some of his properties.
Police swung into action to prevent any further untoward incident.
