The Kuki Students' Organization-GHQ has deferred its proposed State-wide stir, which was scheduled to begin from tonight midnight over the Chassad incident, following a written assurance from the Government during a meeting today.
Thanglenmang Simte, general secretary of Kuki Students' Organization-GHQ said that the decision to defer the stir was taken following a written assurance from the State Government representatives led by Health Minister Jayantakumar and Letpao Haokip.
It may be recalled that Kuki Students' Organization-GHQ had served a 36 hour ultimatum to the Government to arrest the culprits involved in the Chassad incident.
He said that the Government has assured to take action against the culprits as and when the report of the ongoing inquiry is furnished, while also assuring to take up the rebuilding and rehabilitation of Chassad villagers, apart from assuring to make arrangements to open the village high school within 3 weeks.
Other assurances such as providing adequate security to ensure peace in the region, as well as ensuring proper medical facilities, were also made by the State Government, he added.
