Imphal, March 20 2020:
Blaming the authorities of Manipur University and the teachers involved in checking the answer sheets, for the late declaration of BEd 2nd semester examination results which led to many students failing to acquire the benefits of the Tata Trust Scholarship, Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has demanded the concerned parties to pay necessary compensation to the affected students immediately.
Speaking to media persons at DESAM office at Kwakeithel today, its secretary of education and academic affairs, Longjam Robin said that DEd and BEd students who wish to apply for the Tata Trust Scholarship need to include the mark sheets of their last semester examinations.
However, students have been deprived of the benefits under the scholarship, amounting to the range of Rs 11,000 to Rs 21,000 due to the late declaration of the results.
DESAM found that more than 300 students are eligible for the scholarship but due to the failure to declare the exam results in time, around Rs 45 lakh have been lost, he claimed.
He added that when the matter was brought up to the notice of the Examination Controller of MU, it was learned that the whole fiasco was due to the failure of some of the teachers of the Education Department and private colleges to check the papers on time.
As such, the MU authorities and the involved teachers must pay necessary compensation to the affected students, he demanded.
