Imphal, November 07 2018:
Yaiskul MLA Thokchom Satyabrata has appealed to all the students as well as the parents/guardians to broaden the career outlook of their children and look beyond the profession or career which are generally opted by the public.
The MLA made the statement while speaking at a function called, "Ultimate Academic Championship 2018" which was organised by Red Radiance at Machaleima School, Palace Compound today.
He said that exposing the young minds to various competitions, will allow them to become well aware of their strengths and weakness, which in turn would give them an opportunity to focus on improving their weakness.
Underlining the importance of competition in a student's life, the MLA stated that it is necessary to organise as many competitions and extracurricular activities as possible as a way of nurturing the students.
He maintained that parents and guardians hold crucial roles in guiding their children and encouraging them to take part in different competitions and activities.
Speaking on the ill effects of bandh culture in the State, the MLA maintained that frequent bandhs/blockades greatly affect the life of students, their psychology and their academic performance as well and appealed to all to leave the student community out of any bandhs and blockades.
Satyabrata further maintained that the time has come for the students as well as the parents/guardians to look at career/profession from a new perspective and to refrain from running after the few common career paths, for the welfare of the State.
He opined that students should be allowed to choose the subject or profession they like so that they can excel well in life.
Meanwhile, Education (U) Director Wairokpam Malemnganba said that examination is not the end of everything.
Stating that.
students should not neglect examinations or ignore the importance of an examination, he said that students, after the class XII examinations, are often put in a difficult spot when it comes to choosing their subject.
He said that the students are usually given only two options, i.e Medical or Engineering while other career opportunities/ subjects are not discussed or considered at all.
In the past 5 to 10 years, the trend has gradually shifted to civil service like IAS, IPS, MCS etc.
Now, the students are stuck with medical, engineering and civil service, he said and added that the reason for not choosing other subjects/paths is because of the lack of research, discussion and deliberating on other careers options.
Science Teacher Forum vice president Yumnam Nab'akumar was also present at the event.
