Imphal, October 07 2014:
Thamballeima Weaver's Co-operative Society Limited inaugurated its work shed construction today at Moidangpok Mamang Leikai, Imphal West.
Speaking at the occasion, chief guest Minister Govindas Konthoujam said Manipur is known for its varied range of handloom products.
Like sports, the State's handloom products also contribute in promoting the State.
Weavers with valid credit card health insurance and yarn card are given 10 pc subsidy on yarn purchase.
These benefits however are availed by limited number of weavers, Govindas added.
The Minister, lamenting over the limited number of weaver clusters said, only Imphal East and West districts of the State have sufficient number of weaver clusters.
The remaining seven districts are still lacking in the number of such clusters.
Training programmes to encourage sales outside the State have been widely organised, the Minister added.
He further urged weavers to contact their respective handloom project manager for details of the programme.
The Minister further assured that the North Eastern Region Textile Scheme, a project introduced under UPA Government, would soon be made operational.
School uniforms would be entirely made from handloom products, the Minister added.
This would not only contribute in the development of handloom production, but would also boost the State's economy.
The inaugural function was also attended by Social Wefare Minister AK Mirabai, former Education Minister Heigrujam Thoithoi Singh and Lok Sabha MP T Meinya as president and guest of honour respectively.
