Governor VK Duggal hurt, upset on maiden visit to Chandel

Kakching, June 06, 2014: The Governor and his entourage comprising Chandel MLA Nunghlung Victor and Principal Secretary Works Ram Muivah visited the District Hospital, District Sports complex, Autonomous District Council Office as well as Mini Secretariat buildings located in Chandel district today.

While interacting with the people of the district, VK Duggal said, "I promised to visit the District Headquarters only after the government sanctioned the amount for repairing the District Headquarters road.

Today I have come because the government has sanctioned Rs 12 Crore for repairing the district road" "And I could have come by helicopter but I choose to come by road to experience the hardships felt by the people of the district while travelling on the deplorable road and get myself hurt", said the Governor.

Just after interacting with the patients in the District Hospital, the Governor enquired the Chandel Chief Medical Officer about the working condition of the hospital and other grievances faced by the medical staff.

On inspecting the ongoing construction work on the 100 bedded District Hospital, the Governor, who was not happy with the slow process of the work, directed the contractors to complete the construction works on or before October.

During the inspection at District Sports Complex, the Governor also questioned the Assistant Engineer concerned regarding the delay in the construction works of the Mini Stadium.

The Governor was also disappointed while visiting the Autonomous District Council Office where some of the staff attended the office irregularly while some others couldn't give satisfying answers relating to their department.

The Governor was even more upset while interacting with the District Level Officers at the Amity Hall when one of the Officers posted in the district some 3 months back could not give the name of the river used as the water resources of the district.

During the course of his maiden visit to the district, the Governor also interacted with the village chiefs and civil organization leaders who submitted a number of memorandums highlighting various issues.
