Imphal, January 31 2020:
With the formation of a committee of Students' Union of Kangleipak (SUK) Imphal East district, SUK has announced that the committee will launch inspection drives at the private schools present in the district from tomorrow.
Speaking to media persons at Wangkhei Boys High School today, SUK Imphal East district committee president Waikhom Priyojit said that today, the committee has been reformed with many members.
He said that the committee will begin monitoring various private schools present in Imphal East district and alleged that many private schools have been turned into money milking machines in Manipur which is very disappointing.
He urged the private schools to refrain from charging exorbitant fees from the student and iterated that Manipur is full of many poor families.
Speaking about various illogical steps taken up by private schools like charging large amount of money in the name of fees as well as prohibiting the use of any other dresses or books if not bought from the school etc, he reasoned that making the students wear such dresses in unison or selling them the books by force, is not going to improve the educational standard of the school.
He then cautioned that such erring schools, if noticed by SUK, will be severely dealt with.
On the other hand, Priyojit said that it is unfortunate that most of today's student are getting even more addicted to mobile phones and others, instead of positive areas like sports.
Looking after the changing scenario and regarding such extracurricular activities as an area which needs to be given more emphasis, SUK is planning to organise various tournaments, he added.
He continued that students have to take part in many matters concerning the State, other than studying.
It is impossible to stay and study in a corner when the whole State is burning, he explained.
