2nd round PPI camp, 2012 begins

Imphal, April 15 2012:
The 2nd round of Pulse Polio Immunisation camp, 2012 for the state of Manipur, organized by Directorate of Family Welfare, Government of Manipur under the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme (IPPIP) began from today.
The first round for the Pulse Polio Immunisation camp was held on February 19 last, where children between the age group of 0 to 5 years were immunized.
The programme has been initiated in the state by a State Level Steering Committee where Chief Secretary DS Poonia is the Chairman.
This year the programme has been taken up primarily to control the spread of polio from the neighbouring countries to India.
The Pulse Polio Imnmunisation camp has been taken up in the state of Manipur after a State Level Action Plan has been set up.
During the first round of immunsation camp, around 3551 polio booths were set up.
7058 house to house teams were placed also in service for those children who were not able to turn up in the polio booths.
For the second round, a number of polio booths have also set up and house to house team arranged.
The immunization camp for the second round was inaugurated in the complex of the Directorate of Family Welfare, Government of Manipur.
Anganwadi Workers from each and every locality were engaged for the immunization camp.
It may be mentioned that the Pulse Polio Immunistion Programme was started in 1995 .
Since then,the programme has been carried out every year.
