Two unidentified armed persons reportedly tried to abduct a man at gun-point without from Usoipokpi Bazar under Lilong Police Station in Thoubal district yesterday afternoon.
The man who managed to escape from being abducted has been identified as Gangmei Pouthuilung alias Tomba Kabui (46) s/o late Chunphanglung of Lilong Chingkham.
The two armed persons tried to abduct Tomba Kabui at gun-point while he was filling up petrol on his scooter (MN-04-1213) from a shop at Usoipokpi Bazar in the afternoon yesterday.
Tomba reacted swiftly twisting the arm of the person holding the gun.
Both of them were trying to overpower each other for sometime, when some people present in the Bazar area rushed in prompting the two gunmen to flee.
Tomba is said to be a local truck owner and had not received any threat or monetary demand from any underground organisation or group.
In protest against the incident, Chingkham Thoubei (Village Authority) organised a Wakat Meepham near the entrance gate of the village today.
While appealing to all concerned to ensure such incidents do not recur in future, the protestors demanded a clarification from all concerned in connection with the incident.
