Imphal, June 11 2020:
Troops of Assam Rifles along with Manipur Police recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition in two well concealed plastic bags from Karongthel in Tengnoupal district during a search operation on June 10 .
The recovered items included one SLR with magazine, one Bolt Action Rifle with magazine, three Point 32mm pistols, 3910 rounds of assorted ammunition and one YESU Radio Set.
The recovered items have been handed over to Tengnoupal Police Station for further investigations, said a release of PRO Assam Rifles.
Another combined team of Manipur Police and Assam Rifles seized a truck carrying 950 cases of Indian made foreign liquor at Khongsang in Noney on June 9 .
The truck bearing registration number NL01N9178 was supposed to be carrying edible oil from Silchar to Imphal.
The arrested persons have been identified as Abdul Matalib (49) and Md Nasir Khan (43) both residents of Golapati Maning Leikai in Imphal East.
Troops of Tengnoupal Battalion under the aegis of IGAR South apprehended a man along with suspected brown sugar packed in soap cases weighing .415 gms at Khudengthabi.
The arrested person has been identified as Jankhai Haokip, a resident of Khudengthabi village.
He was smuggling the said items from Moreh and was heading towards Imphal.
Tengnoupal Battalion also recovered suspected brown sugar weighing 3.368 kg worth crores during checking of a Hyundai Creta car bearing registration number GUFJW86915 white in colour.
The driver of the car James Vaiphei (22) of Khonomphai in Tengnoupal district along with three passengers Paominlam Haokip (34) of Ngahmunnon in Churachandpur district, Seiminlun Baite (17) of Maojang in Moreh and Nengkhotin Haokip (24) of Sangaikot Block in Churachandpur district have been handed over to Moreh Police Station for further investigation.
