Change Imphal Hospital to COVID Care Centre?

Health Minister L Jayantakumar has conveyed that the State Government has been considering about converting Imphal Hospital, RIMS Road into a COVID-19 care facility, if the need arises.
He was speaking to media on the sideline of handing over ambulances to the CMOs of Kamjong and Noney districts at the Medical Directorate, Lamphelpat today.
It may be mentioned that in the past, some State Government officials had mooted the idea of utilizing some private hospitals and medical institutions in combating COVID-19 if the situation demands.
The Health Minister further informed that the Government has also been considering increasing the number of beds in the COVID-19 isolation wards of RIMS and JNIMS.
He added that the advanced testing laboratory machines ordered by the State Government to enhance the COVID-19 testing capacity are expected to arrive at Imphal within a couple of days.
While admitting that the COVID-19 Care Centre at UNACCO School, Meitram which was supposed to start functioning yesterday had been deferred owing to certain problems, Jayantakumar informed that an order has been issued which directed doctors, nurses and other staff posted at the same COVID-19 care centre to begin their duties from today.
Speaking about today's handing over of ambulances to the CMOs of Kamjong and Noney districts, the Health Minister said that the initiative was part of the State Government's endeavour to mitigate the woes caused by shortage of ambulances in combating COVID-19 pandemic in the State.
He said that certain new districts like Kamjong district are facing shortage of medical infrastructure and equipment, particularly
in fighting COVID-19 .
During the function, Jayantakumar handed over one Medilane ambulance each to the CMOs of Kamjong and Noney Districts.
The ambulances which are equipped with advance life supports would be operated in PPP model together with the State Government.
