Kakching, September 22 2019:
To counter the declining environment due to drastic climate change caused by global warming and widespread deforestation across the globe including Manipur to some extent, about 400 tree saplings were distributed on the 8th day of Tarpan Utsav at 10 different places of Kakching today.
As part of Tarpan Utsav plantation movement which started on September 15, around 1500 tree saplings were distributed to the public so far.
Regarding the movement, Naorem Munal Meitei, Range Forest Officer said that their objective has been served so far which is to distribute tree saplings while offering feast to our forefathers.
He continued that people have readily accepted the tree saplings with open heart and sometimes their demands are so overwhelming that it is difficult to supply the saplings.
He also expressed happiness on the positive intention of the public in fighting the environment degradation and their overwhelming response towards the movement which is a good sign for the State and the future generation as well.
He also held high hope that the public will continue to plant tree saplings next year as part of Tarpan Utsav observation which will go a long way in preserving our ecological balance to large extent.
