Aizawl, December 12 2013:
Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi congratulated Mizoram chief minister Lal Thanhawla on the stunning success of the Congress party in the just concluded Mizoram Legislative Assembly election.
The Prime Minister and the UPA chairperson conveyed their congratulatory regards to the chief minister over telephone this evening, said official sources.
Chief Minister Thanhawla on his part thanked Dr.Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi for their support and cooperation extended to him and his party.
He also apprised them of the need of their support and cooperation in undertaking development tasks ahead, to which the latter assured to extend full support.
Meanwhile, Opposition party Mizoram National Front (MNF), which has met a crushing defeat in the just concluded assembly polls, takes a dig at the Congress party saying the "royal family of Mizoram" under the Congress party is making further progress, referring Lal Thanhawla and his family and kins.
The Congress party on the other is ready to form new government for a second consecutive term.
MNF, in its press release, has mentioned that the "royal family and kins" under the Congress party continue to make progress further.
"It is apparent that the royal family of the Congress party will hold good (well-funded?) departments again this time," the MNF said.
The MNF party also alleged that a brother of chief minister Lal Thanhawla is being given a favorable portfolio in the new government, besides bestowing favour to brothers of his daughter-in-law, who all are now living in one home.
The opposition party further said that talks are there which indicated that Lal Thanhawla would place his daughter-in-law at the constituency which he will leave for by-election.
MNF stated, "The recurrence of the real nature of the Congress royal family is pathetic for the common members of the Congress party" .
The MNF through its press release asked the new Congress government to pay salaries of government servants in time; and also asked to renovate roads; to bring efficiency in power, water supply, cooking gas and economic needs, all for the welfare of the people of Mizoram.
