Women must be cautious against mobile, drugs and restaurants: Tejkumar

Director of Prosecution Ngangom Tejkumar has advised women to be cautious against mobile phones, drugs and restaurants in the light of increasing crime and violence against women in the State.
He was speaking as Chief Guest of the foundation day celebration of Manipur State Commission for Women held at Lamphelpat here today.
Tejkumar further said that rape cases and violence against women are on the rise in the State in the last few years.
There have been many ugly incidents linked to mobile phones.
Moreover, the youths under the influence of drugs often commit heinous crimes against women.
The restaurants in the State have also become places of immoral activities.
The TG rape case was one of such incidents happened inside the dark cabins of the restaurants.
Notably, the rapists of TG student have been sentenced to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment just yesterday.
The right time has come for all civil society organizations to join hands to curb increasing crime and violence against women in the State, he exhorted.
Tejkumar also appealed to all to fight drug abuse and illicit trafficking in the State so that crime and violence against women can be reduced to some extent.
Legal Advisor of Manipur State Commission for Women Meghachandra said that the Commission has received as many as 420 cases from 2010 till date.
So far, 360 cases have been disposed of by the Commission.
The foundation day was also attended by Chairperson of Manipur State Minority Commission Halim Choudhury, Chairperson of Manipur State Commission for Women Dr Ibetombi and Member of MSCW June Rose Vaiphei.
