A Silchar based private company has closed its office after allegedly collecting around Rs 2 lakh from the people residing in the interior localities of Jiribam.
A victim identified as Minakshi Nath said that around four years back, Sunapur GP Ward Member Regina Begum and her husband Abdul Matalip spread information about Brite Manpower Consultancy Limited (BMCL) to the villagers.
Although, many villagers were reluctant to join the company, Regina and Matalip allegedly promised the villagers to repay the invested amount in case the company turned out to be a cheat, she added.
Starting May 2009, the couple have collected Rs 2,01210,00 from 42 members, Minakshi said.
As Regina and Matlip refused to repay the invested amount after attaining maturity, the issue was resolved by Sonapur GP Pradhan.
According to the resolution, the couple must repay 25 percent of the total amount every month, she added.
However, the couple refused repay the said amount to the members.
The members then went to the head office of BMCL located at Silchar where they found the office locked.
Minakshi said that the couple and the company would sued for cheating the innocent villagers.
