Imphal, August 07 2014:
BJP Manipur Pradesh has said that the party would extend full support to enactment of a Regulation Act to facilitate enforcement of Inner Line Permit System in Manipur.
Addressing a press conference held at its Nityaipat Chuthek office, BJP Manipur Pradesh Spokesperson RK Shivachandra said that it was a welcome step to form a Committee headed by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam on the issue during an all-party meeting held yesterday with Chief Minister Okram Ibobi in the chair.
Making his party's stand clear on the issue, RK Shivachandra said that BJP Manipur Pradesh would extend full support to enactment of a Regulation Act, which would prevent unregulated entry and settlement of non-locals in Manipur.
Lauding Government's proposed step to open Special Cells to regulate influx of non-locals at border areas, Shivachandra stressed on the need to consult experts, intellectuals and civil society bodies in the formulation of the Regulation Act.
Alleging that the situation got aggravated due to the negligence of the State Government, Shivachandra demanded immediate unconditional release of pro-ILPS campaigners, currently lodged in the judicial custody.
He said that the 60 MLAs must lead from the front in pressing the Centre for ILPS implementation before the end of the ongoing Parliament session.
Shivachandra alleged that the State Congress Government could not do anything when the Union Home Ministry of the then UPA Government rejected the demand for ILPS implementation by issuing a clarification on July 9, 2012 .
