As per decision of JAC for the Development of JT Road meeting, plying of heavy vehicles has been banned on Jiri-Tipaimukh road from the midnight of Nov 26.Supporters of JAC thronged the road and stopped heavy vehicles plying the road near Irabot Statue point, Jiribam today.
Speaking to media persons, the convenor of JAC for the Development of JT Road M Tombabu Singh said they had submitted memorandums repeatedly to the Chief Minister, Work Minister, local MLA and Deputy Commissioner of Jiribam citing need for urgent repair of the deplorable road.
However, the Government has not shown any positive response till today.
As the condition of road has much worsened, the JAC took the step, he said.
"If the Government is still not heeding to the demands of the JAC, then we will take up stringent agitation from November 29," he said and appealed the Chief Minister to take note of the plight of the people of Jiribam and restore normalcy at the earliest.
The condition of the road is so much worse that it has caused major air pollution and health hazards to the people near the road, said Badain, a villager who has been affected by the condition of the road.
Badain also said that the step of JAC is legitimate and all the communities residing by the Jiri- Tipaimukh road are collectively supporting the agitation.
