Imphal, April 11 2019:
Accusing ex Chief Minister Okram Ibobi of violating the Model Code of Conduct, the BJP Manipur Pradesh has urged the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Manipur to take up appropriate and necessary actions against Ibobi at the earliest.
A letter sent by the general secretary of BJP Manipur Pradesh, N Nimbus Singh, to the CEO alleged that while delivering a speech yesterday at Azad Higher Secondary School, Yairipok, O Ibobi reportedly stated that what BJP wants is to promote the Hindus and demolish the Muslims.
Stating that this particular speech was widely published in various dailies, it continued that the statement not only cluttered the freedom of choice which is the essence of democracy but also violates MCC.
As such, BJP Manipur Pradesh appealed to the CEO to take up necessary action against Okram Ibobi and to register a criminal case against him and take up necessary legal actions.
Following the complaint, Assistant CEO Manipur, N Angangjao Singh, has instructed the Returning Officer No I-Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency to examine the allegation by BJP Manipur Pradesh against O Ibobi, in collaboration with all stakeholders concerned and to submit a self-contained report to the office of the CEO at the earliest.
