Imphal, April 11 2019:
While alleging that BJP took recourse to different wrongful means/practices to get votes in Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency which went to polls today, National People's Party (NPP), Manipur unit has blamed BJP for several unwanted incidents which occurred during the polls today.
Speaking to media persons at the office of NPP, Manipur Unit located at New Checkon this evening, the party's leader Kim Gangte claimed that BJP used Kuki militant groups which are Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact in threatening some Kuki CSOs and chiefs of many villages in Kuki inhabited areas to forcefully garner votes in favour of the BJP candidate in Outer Manipur PC.
She went on to allege that Chief Minister N Biren had warned the Kuki militant groups under SoO pact that the Government would withdraw from the pact if they do not cooperate with BJP in Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency election.
Heeding the Chief Minister's warning, the militant groups threatened and intimidated several CSOs of Kuki tribes and chiefs of many villages in Kuki inhabited areas to woo votes for the BJP candidate, she added.
Kim Gangte slammed the BJP for violating the democratic rights of citizens and causing many unwanted incidents during the polls, including booth capturing.
Further asking whether BJP and its leaders have guts to do the same to the NSCN-IM, she decried that BJP is playing divisive policy among Kuki tribes just to garner votes in favour of their candidate even though the Chief Minister and BJP leaders have been shouting for peaceful coexistence among different communities in the State.
She even accused the BJP leaders of asking the voters belonging to the Kuki tribes to give votes in the line of their respective tribes.
Saying that she had witnessed large number of voters in the hill areas who did not have any indelible ink on their fingers, the NPP leader pointed out that it is a glaring proof that there were rampant malpractices in the Outer Manipur PC election.
Strongly condemning the alleged act of violating fundamental rights of citizens by BJP, Kim Gangte termed the BJP Government as a Government of 'buy the people, off the people and force the people' to get power.
