Alleged ragging forces 17 students of JNV to leave school

Thoubal, October 09 2017:
At least 17 students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Sandumba Achouba, Umathel have fled from their school due to constant ragging and assault by some seniors of the school .
The students sought shelter at the residence of Waikhong Gram Panchayat candidate Samjetsabam Victoria, today morning at around 1 .
According to source, the students concerned are studying in class VII and the students of class VI, VII and VIII of the school, normally stay together at the junior house .
The seniors (VIII students) allegedly bullied the junior students constantly .
The students are made to wash clothes, follow each and every order of the seniors, do the dishes and also forced to make arrangement for food and snacks for the seniors .
The students were also allegedly assaulted by kicking and thrashing with wipers and when the house warden normally go away for vacation or is resting at late evenings .
The students also stated that students of class VII were assaulted on October 5,7 and 8 .
The victims fled the school hostel at around 12.30 am, as they could not bear the constant ragging and assault any longer .
Parents of the students met with the school authority at the residence to discuss the matter, however, both parties were unable to reach a positive solution as the students did not to agree to attend the school unless the school authority make necessary arrangement to eliminate the problem permanently .
A team led by Child Line Director, Nonibala Narengbam took the students to district hospital, Thoubal for health check up and the students were later handed to Child Welfare Committee, Thoubal to conduct necessary procedures like counselling.
