33 Assam Rifles under 57 Mountain Division and 28 Assam Rifles under Hqs 9 sector Assam Rifles of IGAR (S) organised separate medical camps at different locations today.
33 Assam Rifles the free medical camp for the fishermen families residing at the floating biomass (phumdi) of Loktak lake.
It was the second time that a free medical camp was organised by the Army unit on floating phumdis.
A total of 307 villagers, including 153 females and 32 children, were medically examined in the camp that started from 8:30 am and continued upto 1 pm.
According to medical officers who took part in the camp, the villagers were mainly treated for diarrhoea, dysentery, respiratory tract infections, viral fever, skin diseases and myalgias.
Capt Rahmani Sumbul Khan of 357 Field Ambulance, RMO Maj MI Singh, and Dy Commandant Dr TT Singh (SMO) of 33 AR closely examined the patients and provided suitable prescriptions.
Red Shield Division GOC DS Hooda conveyed that such camps would be held in regular intervals.
In commemoration of 175th raising day of Assam Rifles, 28 AR under the aegis of Hqs 9 Sector AR also conducted a medical, dental cum HIV awareness camp at Andro today.
28 AR Commandant Col SC Rana inaugurated the medical camp.
Speaking on the occasion, he highlighted the importance of medical care and attention, health education and knowledge in the present day when HIV is causing a worldwide pandemic and major public health problem.
He also exhorted the public to contribute in the State and Nation building for progress and development.
A team of two medical officers along with their dental and nursing staff examined of various ailments of over 370 men, women and children and also delivered a lecture on awareness of HIV and preventable diseases to the local populace.
The people were also educated on topics like prevention of diseases, vaccination and personnel hygiene through the lecture.
A friendly football match was also played between troops of 28 Assam Rifles and Andro Youth Club.
The teams were given prizes by the 28 Assam Rifles Commandant.
He also gave away sports items to local youth club and rations to needy people of Andro.
In another occasion, 29 Assam Rifles organised a medical camp for the villagers of Saisem of Chandel district yesterday.
More than 178 patients were diagnosed and provided medicines during the camp, said a press release of PRO Hqs IGAR (S).
